I have hope too, mainly bc the director in charge usually has a lot of control over her shows, and does have a precedent for including LGBT characters. Gonna keep the dream alive!
Also Georgi and Chris' performances were something else...
That definitely gives me hope! But on the other hand, I'm not sure whether the anime industry is ready for surprise LGBT leads in a show that's not explicitly marketed as sh-ai/yaoi :| But YoI is magical, so I guess it could happen!
Georgi's performance and costume were... something, definitely. I hope he won't be a one-off character, I want more of that D:
I WAS TOTALLY STUNNED TOO!! When Yuri finished and Victor started running I thought 'awww they'gonna hu---whaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAT' I still cannot believe they actually went for it, instead of doing the usual bait-y ambiguous will-they-won't-they-nah-they-won't stuff. I'M SO HAPPY. And I'm glad it happened in a very popular show from a popular genre that often gets the queerbait treatment, not some forgettable high school slice of life that would go largely unnoticed. SO HAPPY.
As soon as I saw his Disney princess dress outfit I was SOLD. I hope he'll be in the Russian competition too, b/c I'm pretty sure this isn't his final form.
Yesssss!!! It amazes me that some people are still denying the kiss (and the romantic attraction in general) when it had all of the signifiers of a kiss that you would see in any other anime between a heterosexual couple. I really, really hope that the reaction to Yuri on Ice means that other works in the future will be more confident in exploring LGBT romance outside of the pandering, unrealistic fujo/yuribait stuff like Super Lovers and Sakura Trick. I am so gonna buy the most expensive boxset of this show I can once it gets licensed for home release so that they know this is the shit that I crave.
It was the greatest thing I've ever seen in my life, Georgi forever, I could watch him doing the ice-skating equivalent of a Taylor Swift song for the rest of my days. Like even though the animation has gotten a bit janky during the performances at times, I am so glad that they are still doing as many as they can because it injects so much life and personality into the side characters that otherwise wouldn't be there!
I'm feeling confident in saying that Yuri on Ice is now going to be my anime of the year, congrats on beating Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu
I don't buy physical releases of anything since I have nowhere to keep them in my tiny apartment, but I'm seriously considering buying YOI, because this is Important Stuff. Plus, I'm hoping they'll use the HQ version, so we can enjoy the gays in HD C: Tbh, I've pretty much given up on anime as a medium that could deliver enjoyable stories with LGBT themes, since it's very hard to find something watchable among all the rapey yaoi trash (I judge myself from 10 years ago SO HARD for watching those), but... then this stupid show happened. Please don't disappoint us now Japan D:
I agree! They could have easily made the side characters into background for Victor & Yuri, but I love how each of them got enough screentime to develop a personality and a distinct skating style (I think? I know literally nothing about figure skating)
Unless they manage to completely ruin it in the second half, it's definitely my favorite of 2016... there were others I loved, but none of them gave me such FEELS. Feels are +10 points at least.
ssssooo I've noticed that I failed @ uploading the caps properly and there's an extra in the Yuri on Ice folder...... +10 points for anyone who actually uses it
I definitely recommend it! BORDERLANDS IS AMAZING. But only if you enjoy humor/stories based on violence, profanity and shock value. I feel I should warn because I recommended it to a friend, she went in blind, got offended and is now angry at me :c
Not related with the anime of this fall but I've just finished Psycho Pass s1 for the first time and it was so good. I should go back to s2 as soon as I finish The Crown on netflix.

the worst thing is, I know it's the typical sports-anime-for-women baiting, but I still... have hope... D:

Omg yes, more Georgi forever. Saw someone say he looked like the love child of Maleficent and Derek Zoolander, they're not wrong.

i may have cried just a teeny bit. it was just such an important moment and I am so, so astounded and overjoyed that they actually went there!
also Georgi's second performance was straight up gold, I love the teen heartbreak drama that this 27 year old dude injects into his performances
